It is a requirement of current Health and Safety at work legislation that all fire extinguishers are maintained in accordance with current British Standards (currently BS5306 Part 3: 2009) at least annually by a qualified and competent person (current British Standards quantify a competent person as: training should include “on the job experience” and the attendance of a training course run by a recognised body. The competent person should attend for the length of time recommended by the training institution and, at the end of the course pass an examination supervised by an independent body). To keep his certification valid the competent person must also attend a refresher course at least every three years ran by an independent body and pass any subsequent test. If the competent person has not fulfilled these requirements they would be unable to satisfy the criteria for third party accreditation.
Records must be kept to demonstrate to the Fire Authority that an effective service regime is in place. Cowley Fire can maintain, refill and recharge all makes and types of Fire Extinguishers, Hose Reels and associated products.
Cowley Fire service vehicles are fully equipped to carry out all refilling and recharging on clients premises to minimise disruption. If for any reason an extinguisher needs to be removed from site, loan units are available. All work is carried out in accordance with current British Standard 5306 Part 3 2009 by our BAFE registered service technicians.
On completion of the annual service a Certificate of Maintenance will be issued detailing all equipment serviced and its location.
Cowley Fire technicians are happy to instruct staff on the correct usage of fire extinguishers.
All our work is covered by our comprehensive insurance policy covering public and products liability and efficacy (failure to operate).
